Why do Robocitans look like Transformers/Brave Police J-Dekker/Goldrake/etc.?
Thankfully, not all of them do. 😉 But jokes apart, Robocity was born as a Transformers fan-created AU, then evolved into a fully original work of fiction, so when I made the switch (or “reboot”), I kept a few ‘hints’ of the original fan tribute. Even as original work, Robocity will always be a tribute to Transformers and many other robots, real and fictional. Concerning character design in general, in addition to matters of mechanics and dynamics that make for certain choices over others, I grew up with Transformers, GoBots, Astroboy and Go Nagai’s robots, so you can tell where the influence comes from. Brave Police J-Dekker was itself inspired by Transformers. Among my other influences, Gene Roddemberry’s Star Trek and Isaac Asimov’s robot stories.
